Back to School.  Those words don’t have the same excitement as usual this year.  Teachers and administrators are faced with a daunting task of educating students while keeping staff and students safe. Parents are making difficult decisions. Each community is making different choices, no one is happy, and teachers, administrators, and parents feel overwhelmed and ill-equipped.

What can we as Lutheran Women in Mission do to help?

Pray!  Pray for parents and teachers to treat each other with kindness and respect. Pray for our public schools, universities, and seminaries. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 exhorts us to pray without ceasing.  Prayer should be our first course of action, not our last resort.

Encourage!  Check in with friends who work in the school and send them notes of encouragement or little gifts to brighten their day.  Reach out to parents who are frazzled, trying to juggle work and school responsibilities and offer support.

Put love into action!  What can you do?  Can you sew masks for students? Can you donate to school supply drives?  Every little thing helps.

What are some of things you are already doing to support your community and church during these challenging times?  Share these ideas with us.

Continue to pray without ceasing.  We have an awesome God who loves us and cares for us.
